| 96:6 كلا ان الانسان ليطغى |

| Transliteration | Kalla inna al-insana layatgha |
| Literal | No but that truly the human/mankind tyrannizes/exceeds the limit (E). |

| Yusuf Ali | Day, but man doth transgress all bounds, |
| Pickthal | Nay, but verily man is rebellious |
| Arberry | No indeed; surely Man waxes insolent, |
| Shakir | Nay! man is most surely inordinate, |
| Sarwar | Despite this, the human being still tends to rebel |
| Khalifa | Indeed, the human transgresses. |

| 96:7 ان راه استغنى |

| Literal | That (E) he saw/understood him(self), he enriched/sufficed (himself). |

| Yusuf Ali | In that he looketh upon himself as self-sufficient. |
| Pickthal | That he thinketh himself independent! |
| Arberry | for he thinks himself self-sufficient. |
| Shakir | Because he sees himself free from want. |

| 96:8 ان الى ربك الرجعى |

| Literal | That truly to your Lord (is) the return. |

| Yusuf Ali | Verily, to thy Lord is the return (of all). |
| Pickthal | Lo! unto thy Lord is the return. |

| 96:14 الم يعلم بان الله يرى |

| Literal | Does he not know with that (E) God sees/understands? |

| Literal | No but if (E) he does not end/terminate/stop, We will pull and strike (E) by the forehead/forehead's hair. |

| Arberry | No indeed; surely, if he gives not over, We shall seize him by the forelock, |

| Literal | We will call the strong ones/patrol force/Elzabaneya angels. |

| Yusuf Ali | We will call on the angels of punishment (to deal with him)! |

al-`Alaq 096:019
| 96:19 كلا لاتطعه واسجد واقترب |

| Transliteration | Kalla la tutiAAhu waosjud waiqtarib |
| Literal | No but do not obey him, and prostrate and near/approach (to Me). |
| |
|
| Yusuf Ali | Day, heed him not: But bow down in adoration, and bring thyself the closer (to Allah)! |
| Pickthal | Nay, Obey not thou him. But prostrate thyself, and draw near (unto Allah). |
| Arberry | No indeed; do thou not obey him, and bow thyself, and draw nigh. |
| Shakir | Nay! obey him not, and make obeisance and draw nigh (to Allah). |
| Sarwar | (Muhammad), never yield to him! Prostrate yourself and try to come closer to God. |
