94:1 سورة الانشراح بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم ٛــــ الم نشرح لك صدرك


TransliterationAlam nashrah laka sadraka
LiteralDid We not delight/expand your chest (innermost)?

Yusuf AliHave We not expanded thee thy breast?-
PickthalHave We not caused thy bosom to dilate,
Arberry Did We not expand thy breast for thee
ShakirHave We not expanded for you your breast,
Sarwar (Muhammad), have We not comforted your heart,
KhalifaDid we not cool your temper?
Hilali/KhanHave We not opened your breast for you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him))?
H/K/SaheehDid We not expand for you, [O Muúammad], your breast?
MalikO Prophet! Have We not expanded your breast for you[1]
QXPDid We not expand your chest? (Endowed you with resilience, understanding and a heart and mind to accomplish the ‘impossible’).
Maulana AliHave We not expanded for thee thy breast,
Free MindsDid We not relieve your chest
Qaribullah Have We not expanded your chest for you (Prophet Muhammad),

George SaleHave We not opened thy breast;
JM RodwellHAVE we not OPENED thine heart for thee?

AsadHAVE WE NOT opened up thy heart,



al-Inshirah 094:002

94:2 ووضعنا عنك وزرك


TransliterationWawadaAAna AAanka wizraka
LiteralAnd We raised from you your sin/load/burden .

Yusuf AliAnd removed from thee thy burden
PickthalAnd eased thee of the burden
Arberry and lift from thee thy burden,
ShakirAnd taken off from you your burden,
Sarwarrelieved you of the burden
KhalifaAnd we unloaded your load (of sins).
Hilali/KhanAnd removed from you your burden,
H/K/SaheehAnd We removed from you your burden
Malikand relieved you from the burden[2]
QXPAnd thus lightened your burden. (Made the journey through life easy by bestowing upon you the perceptual and intellectual faculties). (80:20).
Maulana AliAnd removed from thee thy burden,
Free MindsAnd take from you your load
Qaribullah and relieved you of your burden

George Saleand eased thee of thy burden,
JM RodwellAnd taken off from thee thy burden,

Asadand lifted from thee the burden

94:3 الذي انقض ظهرك


TransliterationAllathee anqada thahraka
LiteralWhich weighed heavily (on)/burdened your back.

Yusuf AliThe which did gall thy back?-
PickthalWhich weighed down thy back;
Arberry the burden that weighed down thy back?
ShakirWhich pressed heavily upon your back,
Sarwarwhich had been a heavy weight upon your back
KhalifaOne that burdened your back.
Hilali/KhanWhich weighed down your back?
H/K/SaheehWhich had weighed upon your back
Malikwhich weighed down your back,[3]
QXPWhich would weigh on your back so heavily.
Maulana AliWhich weighed down thy back,
Free MindsWhich had put strain on your back?
Qaribullah that weighed down your back?

94:4 ورفعنا لك ذكرك


TransliterationWarafaAAna laka thikraka
LiteralAnd We raised for you your memory/reputation .

Yusuf AliAnd raised high the esteem (in which) thou (art held)?
PickthalAnd exalted thy fame?
Arberry Did We not exalt thy fame?
ShakirAnd exalted for you your esteem?
Sarwarand granted you an exalted reputation?.
KhalifaWe exalted you to an honorable position.
Hilali/KhanAnd raised high your fame?
H/K/SaheehAnd raised high for you your repute.
Malikand exalted your fame?[4]
QXPAnd exalted your renown (O Prophet!). (And gave eminence to you, O Mankind!).
Maulana AliAnd exalted for thee thy mention?
Free MindsAnd We have raised your remembrance
Qaribullah Have We not raised your remembrance?

George Saleand raised thy reputation for thee?
JM RodwellAnd have we not raised thy name for thee?

AsadAnd [have We not] raised thee high in dignity?



al-Inshirah 094:005

94:5 فان مع العسر يسرا


TransliterationFa-inna maAAa alAAusri yusran
LiteralSo that truly with the difficulty/hardship (is) ease/flexibility.

Yusuf AliSo, verily, with every difficulty, there is relief:
PickthalBut lo! with hardship goeth ease,
Arberry So truly with hardship comes ease,
ShakirSurely with difficulty is ease.
SarwarAfter every difficulty there is relief.
KhalifaWith pain there is gain.
Hilali/KhanSo verily, with the hardship, there is relief,
H/K/SaheehFor indeed, with hardship [will be] ease.
MalikSurely with every difficulty there is relief.[5]
QXPAnd behold, with every hardship comes ease.
Maulana AliSurely with difficulty is ease,
Free MindsSo with hardship comes ease.
Qaribullah Indeed, hardship is followed by ease,

George SaleVerily a difficulty shall be attended with ease.
JM RodwellThen verily along with trouble cometh ease.

94:6 ان مع العسر يسرا


TransliterationInna maAAa alAAusri yusran
LiteralThat truly with the difficulty/hardship (is) ease/flexibility.

Yusuf AliVerily, with every difficulty there is relief.
PickthalLo! with hardship goeth ease;
Arberry truly with hardship comes ease.'
ShakirWith difficulty is surely ease.
SarwarCertainly, after every difficulty there comes relief.
KhalifaIndeed, with pain there is gain.
Hilali/KhanVerily, with the hardship, there is relief (i.e. there is one hardship with two reliefs, so one hardship cannot overcome two reliefs).
H/K/SaheehIndeed, with hardship [will be] ease.
MalikSurely with every difficulty there is relief.[6]
QXPIndeed, with every hardship comes ease!
Maulana AliWith difficulty is surely ease,
Free MindsWith hardship comes ease.
Qaribullah indeed, hardship is followed by ease!

George SaleVerily a difficulty shall be attended with ease.
JM RodwellVerily along with trouble cometh ease.

al-Inshirah 094:007

94:7 فاذا فرغت فانصب


TransliterationFa-itha faraghta fainsab
LiteralSo when/if you finished/ended/completed , so work hard/fatigue.

Yusuf AliTherefore, when thou art free (from thine immediate task), still labour hard,
PickthalSo when thou art relieved, still toil
Arberry So when thou art empty, labour,
ShakirSo when you are free, nominate.
SarwarWhen you are free from (your obligations), strive hard (to worship God)
KhalifaWhenever possible you shall strive.
Hilali/KhanSo when you have finished (from your occupation), then stand up for Allahs worship (i.e. stand up for prayer).
H/K/SaheehSo when you have finished [your duties], then stand up [for worship].
MalikTherefore, when you are free from your daily task, devote your time to the labor of worship[7]
QXPHence, whenever you are free from the immediate task, embark upon the next strife.
Maulana AliSo when thou art free (from anxiety), work hard,
Free MindsSo when you are done, then stand.
Qaribullah So, when you have finished (your prayer), labor (in supplication),

George SaleWhen thou shalt have ended thy preaching, labour to serve God in return for his favours;
JM RodwellBut when thou art set at liberty, then prosecute thy toil.

AsadHence, when thou art freed [from distress], remain steadfast,



al-Inshirah 094:008

94:8 والى ربك فارغب


TransliterationWa-ila rabbika fairghab
LiteralAnd to your Lord, so wish/desire.

Yusuf AliAnd to thy Lord turn (all) thy attention.
PickthalAnd strive to please thy Lord.
Arberry and let thy Lord be thy Quest.
ShakirAnd make your Lord your exclusive object.
Sarwarand be devoted to your Lord's service.
KhalifaSeeking only your Lord.
Hilali/KhanAnd to your Lord (Alone) turn (all your intentions and hopes and) your invocations.
H/K/SaheehAnd to your Lord direct [your] longing.
Malikand turn all your attention towards your Lord.[8]
QXPAnd turn all your attention to your Lord. (Remain focused on the Mission entrusted upon you by your Lord).
Maulana AliAnd make thy Lord thy exclusive object.
Free MindsAnd to your Lord you shall seek.
Qaribullah and let your longing be for your Lord (in humility).

George Saleand make thy supplication unto thy Lord.
JM RodwellAnd seek thy Lord with fervour.

Asadand unto thy Sustainer turn with love.
