| Transliteration | Ittakhathoo aymanahum junnatan fasaddoo AAan sabeeli Allahi falahum AAathabun muheenun |
| Literal | They took their rights/oaths (as) a cover (shield), so they prevented/obstructed from God's way/path , so for them (is) a humiliating/degrading torture. |
| Yusuf Ali | They have made their oaths a screen (for their misdeeds): thus they obstruct (men) from the Path of Allah: therefore shall they have a humiliating Penalty. |
