al-Kahf (The Cave) 18:12

18:12 ثم بعثناهم لنعلم اي الحزبين احصى لما لبثوا امدا


TransliterationThumma baAAathnahum linaAAlama ayyu alhizbayni ahsa lima labithoo amadan
LiteralThen We sent/resurrected/revived them to know which (of) the two groups/parties (is) more counting/controlling to what time they remained/waited .

Yusuf AliThen We roused them, in order to test which of the two parties was best at calculating the term of years they had tarried!
PickthalAnd afterward We raised them up that We might know which of the two parties would best calculate the time that they had tarried.
Arberry Afterwards. We raised them up again, that We might know which of the two parties would better calculate the while they had tarried.
ShakirThen We raised them up that We might know which of the two parties was best able to compute the time for which they remained.
SarwarThen We roused them to find out which of the party had the correct account of the duration of their sleep in the cave.
KhalifaThen we resurrected them to see which of the two parties could count the duration of their stay therein.

H/K/SaheehThen We awakened them that We might show which of the two factions was most precise in calculating what [extent] they had remained in time.
Malikand then awakened them to find out which of the two parties (believers and nonbelievers who were arguing about the fact of life after death) could best tell the length of their stay.[12]
QXPAnd then We caused them to rise (out of the Cave). We let them know for themselves which of the two groups, (the young men with their friends in town, or their opponents), had better availed the time. (The Dwellers of the Cave had maintained secret communication with like-minded people in Ephesus).
Maulana AliThen We raised them up that We might know which of the two parties was best able to calculate the time for which they remained.
