| Literal | No but, rather (it) dominated/overwhelmed on their hearts/minds , what they were gaining/acquiring . |
| Yusuf Ali | By no means! but on their hearts is the stain of the (ill) which they do! |
| Pickthal | Nay, but that which they have earned is rust upon their hearts. |
