as-Saffat (Those Who Set The Ranks, Drawn up in Ranks, The Rangers) 37:70

37:70 فهم على اثارهم يهرعون


TransliterationFahum AAala atharihim yuhraAAoona
LiteralSo they are on their tracks/marks/signs rushing disturbedly .

Yusuf AliSo they (too) were rushed down on their footsteps!
PickthalBut they make haste (to follow) in their footsteps.
Arberry and they run in their footsteps.
ShakirSo in their footsteps they are being hastened on.
Sarwarand rushed to follow them.
KhalifaAnd they blindly followed in their footsteps.
Hilali/KhanSo they (too) made haste to follow in their footsteps!
H/K/SaheehSo they hastened [to follow] in their footsteps.
Malikand they are eagerly following their footsteps.[70]
QXPBut they made haste to follow their footprints.
Maulana AliAnd most of the ancients surely went astray before them,
Free MindsSo they too have hastened in their footsteps.
Qaribullah yet they run in their footsteps,

George Saleand they trod hastily in their footsteps:
JM RodwellAnd they hastened on in their footsteps.

Asadand [now] they make haste to follow in their footsteps! [I.e., blind imitation (taqlid) of the - obviously absurd - beliefs, valuations and customs of one's erring predecessors, and disregard of all evidence of the truth supplied by both reason and divine revelation, is here shown to be the principal cause of the suffering referred to in the preceding passage (Zamakhshari).]
