26:139 فكذبوه فاهلكناهم ان في ذلك لاية وماكان اكثرهم مؤمنين


TransliterationFakaththaboohu faahlaknahum inna fee thalika laayatan wama kana aktharuhum mu/mineena
LiteralSo they denied him , so We made them die/destroyed them, that truly in that (is) an evidence/sign (E), and most of them were not believing.

Yusuf AliSo they rejected him, and We destroyed them. Verily in this is a Sign: but most of them do not believe.
PickthalAnd they denied him; therefor We destroyed them. Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers.
Arberry So they cried him lies; then We destroyed them. Surely in that is a sign, yet most of them are not believers.
ShakirSo they gave him the lie, then We destroyed them. Most surely there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe.
SarwarIn this there is evidence (of the Truth), yet most of them do not have any faith.
KhalifaThey thus disbelieved and, consequently, we annihilated them. This should be a lesson, but most people are not believers.

[The message referred to here is contained in verses 128 - 130, which point out the three cardinal sins resulting from man's inordinate striving for power: worship of anything apart from God, self-admiring search for "glory", and cruelty or harshness towards one's fellow-men.]
