al-Mu'minun (The Believers) 23:72

23:72 ام تسألهم خرجا فخراج ربك خير وهو خير الرازقين


TransliterationAm tas-aluhum kharjan fakharaju rabbika khayrun wahuwa khayru alrraziqeena
LiteralOr you ask/question them (for) a royalty/retainer , so your Lord's royalty/retainer (is) best , and He is the provider's best .

Yusuf AliOr is it that thou askest them for some recompense? But the recompense of thy Lord is best: He is the Best of those who give sustenance.
PickthalOr dost thou ask of them (O Muhammad) any tribute? But the bounty of thy Lord is better, for He is Best of all who make provision.
Arberry Or dost thou ask them for tribute? Yet the tribute of thy Lord is better, and He is the best of providers.
ShakirOr is it that you ask them a recompense? But the recompense of your Lord is best, and He is the best of those who provide sustenance.
Sarwar(Do they disbelieve because) you asked them for payment? The reward that you will receive from your Lord is the best. He is the best Provider.
KhalifaAre you asking them for a wage? Your Lord's wage is far better. He is the best Provider.
Hilali/KhanOr is it that you (O Muhammad SAW) ask them for some wages? But the recompense of your Lord is better, and He is the Best of those who give sustenance.
H/K/SaheehOr do you, [O Muúammad], ask them for payment? But the reward of your Lord is best, and He is the best of providers.
MalikOr is it that you are asking them for some recompense? But the recompense of your Lord is the best, for He is the best provider of sustenance.[72]

AsadOr dost thou [O Muhammad] ask of them any worldly recompense? But [they ought to know that] recompense from thy Sustainer is best, since He is the best of providers! [The terms kharj and kharaj which occur in the above verse are more or less synonymous, both of them denoting "recompense". According to Zamakhshari, however, there is a slight difference between these two expressions, kharj being more restricted in its meaning than kharaj: hence, the first has been rendered as "worldly recompense" and the second as "recompense" without any restrictive definition, implying that a recompense from God is unlimited, relating both to this world and the hereafter.]
