al-`Ankabut (The Spider) 29:21

29:21 يعذب من يشاء ويرحم من يشاء واليه تقلبون


TransliterationYuAAaththibu man yashao wayarhamu man yashao wa-ilayhi tuqlaboona
LiteralHe tortures whom He wills/wants, and He has mercy (upon) whom He wills/wants, and to Him you are being turned/returned .

Yusuf Ali"He punishes whom He pleases, and He grants Mercy to whom He pleases, and towards Him are ye turned.
PickthalHe punisheth whom He will and showeth mercy unto whom He will, and unto Him ye will be turned.
Arberry chastising whom He will, and having mercy on whomsoever He will, and unto Him you shall be turned.
ShakirHe punishes whom He pleases and has mercy on whom He pleases, and to Him you shall be turned back.
SarwarHe punishes or grants mercy to whomever He wants and to Him you will all return.
KhalifaHe condemns to retribution whomever He wills, and showers His mercy upon whomever He wills. Ultimately, to Him you will be turned over.
Hilali/KhanHe punishes whom He will, and shows mercy to whom He will, and to Him you will be returned.
H/K/SaheehHe punishes whom He wills and has mercy upon whom He wills, and to Him you will be returned.
MalikHe punishes whom He wills and shows mercy to whom He pleases, and to Him you shall be turned back.[21]
QXPHe requites individuals and nations according to His Laws, and bestows Mercy according to His Laws. And you are obliged to draw consequences from Him.
Maulana AliHe chastises whom He pleases and has mercy on whom He pleases, and to Him you will be turned back.
Free Minds"God will punish whom He wills and He will have mercy on whom He wills, and to Him you will return."
Qaribullah He punishes whom He will and has mercy to whom He will. To Him you shall be turned.

George SaleHe will punish whom He pleaseth, and He will have mercy on whom He pleaseth. Before Him shall ye be brought at the day of judgement:
