Polygamy

In Islam, a man is limited to marrying 4 wives. This is rarely practiced due to the many conditions and prerequisites that surround this practice.

First of all, I must say I as a Muslim do not think polygamy is a bad thing, especially the way it is regulated as in Islam.

Polygamy can SAVE a society from many ills such as (adultery, sexually transmitted diseases, fatherless children, prostitution, and loneliness, etc...).

In Islam, a man must provide for one wife exactly the same as the other, there are many Hadeeths that give the details of the regulations surrounding polygamy. These guidelines are strict and leave a spouse preferring a monogamous marriage.

On the other hand, in Christianity, Polygamy is not regulated thus can be a dangerous element towards society. Unregulated polygamy can cause a rich person in the town to attract and marry many women, as David married 400, which may cause other men in the village to move or stay unmarried.

Here we will compare the Qur'an and the Bible on the topic of polygamy:

" If ye fear that ye shall not be able to deal justly with the orphans, Marry women of your choice, Two or three or four; but if ye fear that ye shall not be able to deal justly (with them), then only one, or (a captive) that your right hands possess, that will be more suitable, to prevent you from doing injustice." {Holy Qur'an translation 4:3}

God has regulated how many wives we can marry to Save us from a haphazard free for all unregulaged and unrestrained selfish marriage as shown here;

" Solomon had three hundred wives and seven hundred concubines, according to 1 Kings 11v3 Rehoboam had 18 wives and sixty concubines Chronicles 11v21. Abijah had 14 wives, see 2 Chronicles 13v21. "

In conclusion, no where in the current Bible is polygamy forbidden or regulated, which can lead to disaster, while Islam gives Godly regulation.
