105:1 سورة الفيل بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم ٛــــ الم تر كيف فعل ربك باصحاب الفيل


TransliterationAlam tara kayfa faAAala rabbuka bi-as-habi alfeeli
LiteralDid you not see/understand how (what) your Lord made/did with the elephant's owners/company/ friends?

Yusuf AliSeest thou not how thy Lord dealt with the Companions of the Elephant?
PickthalHast thou not seen how thy Lord dealt with the owners of the Elephant?
Arberry Hast thou not seen how thy Lord did with the Men of the Elephant?
ShakirHave you not considered how your Lord dealt with the possessors of the elephant?
SarwarHave you not considered how your Lord dealt with the people of the elephant?.

105:2 الم يجعل كيدهم في تضليل


TransliterationAlam yajAAal kaydahum fee tadleelin
LiteralDid He not make their plotting/conspiring in misguidance?

Yusuf AliDid He not make their treacherous plan go astray?
PickthalDid He not bring their stratagem to naught,
Arberry Did He not make their guile to go astray?
ShakirDid He not cause their war to end in confusion,
SarwarDid He not cause their evil plots to fail
KhalifaDid He not cause their schemes to backfire?
Hilali/KhanDid He not make their plot go astray?
H/K/SaheehDid He not make their plan into misguidance?
MalikDid He not make their treacherous plan a flop?[2]

105:3 وارسل عليهم طيرا ابابيل


TransliterationWaarsala AAalayhim tayran ababeela
LiteralAnd He sent on them flying/birds (in) flocks/groups gathered and following each other .

Yusuf AliAnd He sent against them Flights of Birds,
PickthalAnd send against them swarms of flying creatures,
Arberry And He loosed upon them birds in flights,
ShakirAnd send down (to prey) upon them birds in flocks,
Sarwarby sending against them flocks of swallows
KhalifaHe sent upon them swarms of birds.
Hilali/KhanAnd sent against them birds, in flocks,
H/K/SaheehAnd He sent against them birds in flocks,
MalikAnd send against them flocks of birds,[3]
QXPAnd sent upon them swarms of flying creatures.

105:4 ترميهم بحجارة من سجيل


TransliterationTarmeehim bihijaratin min sijjeelin
LiteralIt throws them with stones from dry and hardened mud .

Yusuf AliStriking them with stones of baked clay.
PickthalWhich pelted them with stones of baked clay,
Arberry hurling against them stones of baked clay
ShakirCasting against them stones of baked clay,
Sarwarwhich showered them with small pebbles of clay
KhalifaThat showered them with hard stones.
Hilali/KhanStriking them with stones of Sijjeel.
H/K/SaheehStriking them with stones of hard clay,
Malikwhich pelted them with stones of baked clay,[4]
QXPThen you showered them with hard stones earmarked with requital. ('Sijjil' = Inscribed = Marked out).
Maulana AliCasting at them decreed stones --
Free MindsStriking them with rocks made from hardened clay.
Qaribullah pelting them with stones of baked clay,

George Salewhich cast down upon them stones of baked clay;
JM RodwellClaystones did they hurl down upon them,

Asadwhich smote them with stone-hard blows of chastisement pre-ordained,



al-Fil 105:005

105:5 فجعلهم كعصف ماكول


TransliterationFajaAAalahum kaAAasfin ma/koolin
LiteralSo He made them like eaten husk/chaff/leaves .

Yusuf AliThen did He make them like an empty field of stalks and straw, (of which the corn) has been eaten up.
PickthalAnd made them like green crops devoured (by cattle)?
Arberry and He made them like green blades devoured.
ShakirSo He rendered them like straw eaten up?
Sarwarto turn them into (something) like the left-over grass grazed by cattle.
KhalifaHe made them like chewed up hay.
Hilali/KhanAnd made them like an empty field of stalks (of which the corn has been eaten up by cattle).
H/K/SaheehAnd He made them like eaten straw.
Malikthus rendered them like the chewed- up chaff.[5]
QXPAnd made them like a field of grain eaten down to stubble.
